Surface Magazine presents "The Diner" during Fuorisalone 2018
In honor of its 25th anniversary, the American design magazine Surface will present The Diner at Ventura Centrale in collaboration with architect David Rockwell. As a celebration of American design, it will exhibit an unforgettable contemporary interpretation of the archetypal American dinner.
The installation will immerse the visitor in four distinct environments: the entrance inspired by the Airstream, an East Coast-style luncheonette, a room paying tribute to dinners of the Midwest and a laid-back West Coast lounge. In addition, emerging and established U.S. based designers and brands will be participating at the exhibition including design studio 2x4, that will create the visual identity.
The Diner will be a place to eat, relax and recharge. It will host a daytime talk series during Milan Design Week and in the evenings, it will transform into a nightclub with latenight performances and parties.
David Rockwell, arquitect and designer, founded his studio based in New York in 1984. His work outstands by the immersive environments he designs, creating a unique narrative for every project. His work ranges from restaurants, hotels, to museum exhibitions, and Broadway sets. David’s honors include the 2016 Tony Award for Best Scenic Design for the musical She Loves Me and six Tony Award nominations for Best Scenic Design.
