Tortona Design Week: the world in one street
Tortona was the first area in Milan to become organized as a Fuorisalone district, more than 15 years ago. Today Tortona Design Week is a group project, which all the main players active in the promotion of design in the area developing around via Tortona participate in.
For several years, Zona Tortona has been transforming into a place of cultural production and interaction with the public and the city throughout the year, thanks to the presence of entities like Mudec, the new BASE Milan project and the Armani/Silos. To confirm this renewed tension, Mudec and BASE have been selected among the fourteen official seats of the XXI Triennale in Milan, of which they will host international exhibits and participations.
Tortona Design Week is animated by countless international groups coming from European and Asian countries, with a growing presence of China and Japan. In the 2016 editions, some historical participants of the Fuorisalone come back, like Maarten Baas with a new artistic project, but also Marcel Wanders who, apart from his historical collaboration with MOOOI, proposes an innovative concept dedicated to children. Naoto Fukasawa, internationally acclaimed architect and industrial designer, is among the novelties of this 2016 edition. Apart from asserted designers, the Tortona Design Week also dedicates a space to some of the most important universities and design schools.
For the public, it represents a highly lively circuit, with a consolidated affluence of about 130,000 visitors every year, coming from all over the world and divided between professionals from the industry, press, trendsetters and simply curious people.
