The exhibition is a homage rendered by Abet Laminati to the brothers Alessandro and Francesco Mendini, with whom the company has collaborated for almost 50 years. 26 wooden models, 13 drawings, photographs and videos tell the long design path of the Mendini brothers and of their Atelier.
The exhibition Atelier Mendini. Le Architetture, curated by Aldo Colonetti is an homage rendered by Abet Laminati to the brothers Alessandro and Francesco Mendini, with whom the company has enjoyed an active working relationship for almost 50 years. Abet’s laminates have always played a fundamental role in the design of the Atelier Mendini, giving life to the architettura dipinta (painted architecture) that characterises the entire oeuvre of Alessandro and Francesco Mendini.
For the first time, the exhibition brings together all the public and private architectural works created by the Atelier through 26 stunning wooden models, which are faithful reproductions of as many designs, together with 13 drawings, photographs and videos. Especially for this occasion, Atelier Mendini has designed the Merletto pattern, which has been digitally printed to create an underlying graphic motif for the exhibition.
Abet Laminati has once again counted on the artisanal expertise of the De Rosso company in working with laminate. With the technical assistance of Sublitex, De Rosso has constructed the installation on show at La Triennale. The catalogue Atelier Mendini. Le Architetture is published by Electa. It features essays by Aldo Colonetti, Peter Weiß, Alessandro and Francesco Mendini and includes institutional texts by the president of Abet Laminati, Bruno Mazzola, and the president of La Triennale di Milano, Stefano Boeri.
