Alessandro Iovine - TOKITALY Shibuya: design meets crafts

The “Shibuya: design meets crafts” event by TOKITALY is an opportunity to introduce the work inspired by the latest trip to Japan made by Alessandro Iovine.The lightness and elegance of the Rising Sun population, the contrast between the kawaii aesthetics (where everything is "cute") and the Country’s strong historical roots, traditions and spirituality have given shape to a collection of furniture, to mark such a unique experience.The main protagonist is the “Shibuya” set of tables, unique pieces, inspired by the popular Tokyo district. The greens and reds of the traffic lights and the thousand-coloured neon lights of the most populated intersection in the globe direct an orderly flow of thousands of people who, almost as if by magic, observe but never touch each other: this is the untold story of this project, a picture of a unique place taken with wonder by a western traveler. This work does not want to imitate the unattainable poetry of the Japanese designs - the ambition here was to create an object that could feel ironic, almost naive, whilst being elegant and precious, just as one feels when walking through the streets of Tokyo.The "Shibuya" tables are a mix between design and "hand-made" by skilled Italian artisans, infused with a strong oriental scent.
