This place, so important for the Fuorisalone, is lightened up again thanks to “Foundation”, an exhibition presenting the works of Formafantasma
Spazio Krizia is much loved by the Milanese not only for the fashion shows of one of the brands that made the history of Italian fashion, but also for the cultural events through which Mariuccia Mandelli used to engage intellectuals of the calibre of Umberto Eco, but also internationally-known designers, among whom Ingo Maurer and Ron Arad.
This place, so important for the Fuorisalone, is lightened up again thanks to “Foundation”, an exhibition presenting the works of Formafantasma.
Studio Formafantasma is composed by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, a duo of Italian designers based in Amsterdam. Their works are part of prestigious public collections such as the MoMA in New York, Stedelijk’s- Hertogenbosch, Metropolitan Museum di New York, Mak Museum in Vienna, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, MUDAC Lausanne, Mint Museum of Craft and Design in North Carolina, Chicago Art Institute and Textiel Museum in Tilburg.
Foundation presents a selection of light objects from the Delta collection designed for Galleria Giustini/Stagetti, Galleria O. Roma, but also a series of experiments with light developed for the independent art centre Peep-Hole in Milan. The exhibition includes a partial preview of the new collaboration between the designers and the Textiel Museum in Tilburg (2018).
The path develops through different project phases, unique pieces, limited editions and the first real collection of objects designed by Formafantasma to be industrially produced. Not only lamps but also real experiments based on the concept and on the shape of lighting tools.
To better understand this project we asked Simone and Andrea to answer a few questions.
The exhibition is like a workshop, like a work in progress. What is the role of experimentation in your work?
It is probably the only way of working we know. Whenever we start a new project we know where we start but we don't know where we'll get. We are open to the process, to free insights and even mistakes.
The Fuorisalone is a unique event in the world for its ability to engage an entire city. How do you feel in such a context?
Very well. It is not an elite event and it involves both professionals and the general public. It is a further proof of the high potential of design as a discipline and of its ability to communicate with users at different levels.
“Foundation” will be open to the public on 3rd April from 7 to 10 p.m. and from 4th to 9th April from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
