FERAL CONCEPT: AFRA Collection Inspired by traditional rugs from the Atlas region
In the occasion of the Milan Design Week 2017 and the 56th edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Malcusa has collaborated with Lee Wood with the release of an exclusive collection of rugs, FERAL CONCEPT.
FERAL CONCEPT: AFRA
Afra is the Ancient Berber masculine name signifying peace.
Feral Concept is the fusion of techniques and languages that reflect our present. Global digital nomads, constantly traveling through kilometers of fiber optic cables. Afra offers a welcome rest from the harshness of virtual reality.
Inspired by traditional rugs from the Atlas region this virgin wool and silk rug is hand knotted in Nepal, accurately following a very static digital pattern, which through is long pile appears irregular and indeed constantly in motion.
Wood elaborate: ”In this world of urban chaos and rigid lines I felt the urge for warmth and softness; something tactile and less severe that evoked feelings of our tribal heritage”.
The british born designer studied at the Berkshire College of Art and Design, moved to Milan in 1998 to work for Versace.
In 2014 he set up his own design studio which, in 2015, gave birth to his own brand L72
Currently Wood is the creative director for Dirk Bikkembergs.
