Federico Peri
Federico Peri’s philosophical approaches allow him to naturally and simply find a story behind each product, generating a completely different image of contemporary Italian design.
Federico -an interior designer based in Milan- has worked for Dahmstudio in Paris and for Vudaferieri Saverino in Milan. He has been Maison&Objet Rising Talent Award 2018 winner, and was nominated for the German Design Award in 2017.
We had a chance to talk to him about his projects for Salone del Mobile 2018 and his future plans.
Federico, can you tell us about your participation in this year’s edition of the Salone del Mobile? How does your creative/design process work?
This year´s edition is very interesting. I worked with several design brands displayed both at the Fuorisalone as well as the international furniture fair. I´m very happy for the new collaborations with Nilufar Gallery, Editions, Baxter and for the small furniture collection designed with “Il Bisonte” -Tuscan leather goods brand - based on the brand identity and created with the company’s materials.
You will also collaborate with the Ventura District. Can you tell us about this project?
I initiated my journey with the Ventura District in 2014, presenting my first personal furniture collection. This year Editions- Milanese brand, which has its headquarters in Future Dome- will be part of the Ventura Future circuit. For them I designed a collection of hanging lamps inspired by Bauhaus architecture.
What was your inspiration and starting point?
Designing a project inspired by the ancient art deco lanterns was part of the brief that I received from the brand. Additionally, while I was working on the project I was fascinated by Bauhaus architecture, by those iconic images with large metallic windows that at night were illuminated from the inside as if they were big lighthouses. I proposed to use this idea to create a collection of suspension lamps.
Can you tell us some must-sees for this year’s Salone del Mobile?
I do not know what will exactly happen, but what I definitely recommend is to visit Nilufar Gallery, both the main showroom in via della Spiga as well as Nilufar Depot. Furthermore, don’t miss Ventura Future / Centrale, they promise many interesting news.
Since you have travelled and participated in worldwide events, what do you think distinguishes Salone del Mobile?
Salone del mobile is simply unique. The characteristic that makes it different from the others is the combination between the fair and the Fuorisalone; Also other cities have this format, but only in Milan what happens throughout the city is even greater than what happens in the trade fair. Design is displayed with huge pride and even those who do not work in this industry end up surrounded by it at least 1 week a year.
