Fifty years ago, Archizoom Associati created Superonda. Poltronova pays tribute to this icon of Radical Design by calling on all members of the Florentine team to design six new, celebrative outfits.
Fifty years ago, Archizoom Associati created Superonda, one of the very first sofas designed with no inner structure. It was a polyurethane parallelepipedon split in two parts by a waved cut. A simple gesture that challenged bourgeois living habits, a timeless symbol of a new, freer lifestyle. Poltronova pays tribute to Superonda —an iconic anti-design piece of furniture that fully preserves its outrageously playful nature— by calling on all members of the radical team from Florence to design a new, celebrative outfit for the occasion. “It seemed only natural to celebrate it with a party in a garden. Originally it was that of Villa Strozzi in Florence, where the Archizoom studio is located. This year it will be the Triennale Garden in Milan,” says Poltronova president Roberta Meloni.
The exhibition presents 11 pieces of furniture for each of the six Limited Edition patterns of Poltronova Superonda Special: Babele Decoded by Dario Bartolini, Dressing by Dario Bartolini for Lucia Bartolini, No—stop by Gilberto Corretti, Pois by Cristina Morozzi for Massimo Morozzi,Spots by Paolo Deganello, and Stripes by Andrea Branzi.
