Exhibition Max Dudler - Narrating Spaces
Max Dudler: Narrating Spaces
The small allows us to understand the big. In terms of spatial atmosphere, a room works like a house, a square, or an entire city. “Spatial atmosphere, regardless of scale, arises out of reduction and materiality,” says Max Dudler, whose huge spectrum of architectural creativity embraces projects as varied as the Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Center, Hambach Castle, and the Concert Hall in Reutlingen.
The exhibition Max Dudler: Narrating Spaces approaches and explores Dudler’s architecture via his interiors and furniture. Light and shadow, geometry, materials, and surfaces unfold in a photographic essay by Stefan Müller that captures the special feel and haptics of Dudler’s creations. The twenty-seven large-format motifs framed in cherry wood take us on a journey through time and lived spaces with their own patina. The photographs are combined with a selection of furniture designed by Max Dudler over a period of thirty years for the Deutsche Werkstätten in Hellerau. Like his first series “Black Monday,” the chairs and tables of his most recent collections “Max Dudler” and “Hambach” demonstrate his ambition to rigorously reduce design to its essentials: clear forms and high-quality materials.
The exhibition is accompanied by the eponymous book "Max Dudler. Narrating spaces".
The exhibition is curated by Simone Boldrin.
