The link between a "primitive" material world and the search for contemporary shapes and textures are the main theme of the poetics of ROU Materiaal.

Solid wood from dead trees standing or felled because they are sick and linen painted with ancient techniques. The materials are worked with fire, sand, gilding, resins and acrylics. In this way, suggestions are created that recall the techniques used in the restoration and evoke rough and stony surfaces.

In this exhibition / event ROU Materiaal with its wooden panels, its canvases and its sculpture tables, uses its own techniques to tell various types of layers, from those of language to those of time to those of materials and objects found.

Each raw material takes on a different and more intense effect depending on the layers that have occurred over time.

Strength of color, presence of human gesture, search for the unexpected, caused by combinations, even random ones.
