MUSICA DA VIAGGIO. VITO NESTA NELLE STANZE DI GIUSEPPE VERDI. THE DESIGNER’S FIRST PERSONAL WILL BE HELD AT THE ET DE MILAN GRAND HOTEL ON THE OCCASION OF MILANO DESIGN WEEK 2019. BY ANNALISA ROSSO.

From April 9th to 14th 2019 on the occasion of Milano design week the designer Vito Nesta presents his first personal ‘Musica da Viaggio’ at the Grand Hotel et de Milan. Vito Nesta nelle stanze di Giuseppe Verdi, by Annalisa Rosso.

The Grand  Hotel et de Milan is a symbolic spot for the city, rich in meaningful events which traced his 150 and more years of presence. Since the end of the ‘800, being the only hotel in Milan providing postal and telegraphic services, it hosted men and women who made history: diplomats, entrepreneurs, artists from all over the world, often related to the nearby Teatro alla Scala.
The space is completely in line to his taste, he who makes use of memory as an infinite archive useful to create a new design that embraces colour, decoration and exchange with history.
No coincidence the personal ‘musica da viaggio’ was conceived as a site-specific project for the ‘Stanze di Giuseppe Verdi’, where the Master lived for about 30 years during his long stays in Milan, and where he died in 1901.
Among original furniture there is on display a string of installations in an architectural scale that play well with the colour gamut, just like Verdi employed melody and harmony in order to compose his scores.
Synesthetic modulations that mirror one into the another, at times approaching, at times approaching or drifting apart one another but never quitting the continuous exchange of references. ‘An immersive experience for visitors of absolute delight which according to the curator, Annalisa Rosso, is an opportunity to peak inside the designer’s reality. Made up of re-elaborations and evocations-fecund image that come from eras and places very distant from one another”.
The Grand Hotel gives inspiration itself too, just to mention the key role of the majestic marble sculpture typically positioned inside the front foyer. This is a symbolic representation of the abolition of slavery in Brazil whose law was signed when the Imperial Highness Dom Pedro II of Bragança and Teresa of the Two Sicilies were staying at the hotel.
For the first time great installations are installed in the historic rooms of Giuseppe Verdi, little known to the general public. The large format though is not the only unprecedented element Vito Nesta is introducing in this exhibition.
The real innovation is in the material chosen: leather, the fundamental element of the production for this occasion, it shows its extreme adaptability and its expressiveness applied to a refined project that declares its deep belonging to the city of Milan.
The exposition Musica da Viaggio. Vito Nesta nelle stanze di Giuseppe Verdi is made possible thanks to the support given by Bonaudo, leading Italian company in the production of high-quality leather, lead by Alessandro Iliprandi, committed on environmental protection and active for the support of international emerging talents.
