KCDF presents the contemporary Korean Furniture exhibition under the title "The Simple yet not Shabby, the Splendid yet not Luxury", which is the value of living culture in Korea.
Since 2013, with the project Constancy and Change in Korean Craft, the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Tourism together with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF) promote Korean crafts as one of the highest expressions of world design.
The title of the Constancy and Change in Korean Craft exhibition, Bupgochangsin (法古創新), refers to an expression first used by Park Ji-won, the respected philosopher and novelist, known by his pen name Yonsam, of the Joseon Dynasty in the 18th Century. It means creating the new by emulating the old, knowing how to make changes based on the old and creating new things, yet not forgetting its roots. A different idea from Confucius’ Ongoijisin (溫故而知新), which means understanding the past to see the future, emphasising the review of the past. On the contrary, Changsin (創新), emphasized in Bupgochangsin, celebrates the beauty of the creation of the new.
