Zona Santambrogio, one of the youngest districts of the Milanese Design Week, returns with the sixth edition of 'DOUTDESign', the collective exhibition of young designers under 35, hosting an unpublished project never realized by Franco Albini, the 'Hanging Chair'.
The 2018 edition of DOUTDESign Exhibition, always set up in the headquarters of the District, in the former convent of via San
Vittore 49 in Milan, is an invitation for young designers to question the potential of design in the current and future world.
DOUTDESign 2018, now in its 6th edition, is the exhibition dedicated to young emerging designers under 35 and start-ups
innovations in the furniture, innovation, sustainability, makers, accessories, interiors, illustration, and product sectors. The interest of the organizers is the young category as the bearer of a knowledge and confidence with technology that allows you to experiment and go further in the imagination of an increasingly inter-connected and accessible future.
Studio Albini Associati presents, inside the headquarters of Zona Santambrogio, the small exhibition "LA RICERCA DELLA LEGGEREZZA", one of the foundations of the methodology of Franco Albini. In this exhibition the prototype of the "Hanging Armchair" will be exhibited, designed by Franco Albini with Enea Manfredini, redesigned and developed by the Studio. An experimental piece similar to other products designed by the master of Rationalism throughout his career, such as the "Veliero" bookshop, is finally realized and put on display with copies of the drawings of the same series. Franco Albini conceives the "Hanging Armchair" and a complete series of other experimental pieces in 1943 for the "Casa per tutti" competition, organized by the Milan Triennale. In these the parts with bearing function (backrest and seat of the armchair) are based on the principle of reticular beams, that is realized with thin wooden rods, straight from slender steel ropes. Back and seat of the armchair are obtained from simple surfaces that are transformed into volumes thanks to their approach in the space according to right or obtuse angles.
