WOOD-SKIN® AT MUDEC FOR “SEMPERING” EXPOSITION

You really can’t miss this exhibition designed by Cino Zucchi at the new museum MUDEC by David Chipperfield. The exhibited sculptural Wood-Skin® piece lies beside other beautiful designs in the “folding” chapter of the Sempering exhibition. Here the most recurrent manufacturing actions in architecture and design process: “cutting”, “stacking”, “folding”, “weaving”, “connecting”, “moulding”, “ engraving”, “tiling”  are seen and investigated under a new light.

“Sempering” – present continuous of the verb “to semper”,  in architecture and design it stands for constructive action on a material or component leaves a significant formal trace in the final product. Neologism comes from the last name of German architect Gottfried Semper curator of some sections of the first world exposition in 1851 in London. The exhibition Sempering, built in the spaces of MUDEC, wants to focus attention on some ‘ways of doing’ of contemporary design, with no claim to formalize their complete geography and without distinguishing disciplinary types . At the base of its choices and its order is a simple concept – that of the need for continuous review of the relationship between means and ends, between ‘methods’ and ‘forms’.
