Project that connects students and entities linked with design and innovation to provide creative synergies
Intercrea is a project that tries to connect, from the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), different people and entities linked in some way with design and innovation, so that they INTERact and provide CREAtive synergies.
This project involves, on the one hand, the students of the Degree of Design of the UJI, proposing different product concepts, on the other hand recognized producer companies, that provide their feedback and the realization of the prototypes, making them have a completely Professional finish, various suppliers that provide materials, design professionals, who coordinate, facilitating the interaction between the parties, spaces and the press, that allow to give visibility to the project, and the university and different public entities that support and promote that everything takes cape.
The students who participate in this project live an experience of developing a real product, following a detailed planning and approaching the different phases of the design process.
This year the company M114, the main collaborator, has proposed as a research theme for the students to develop their projects, the integration of new technologies (Domotic, smartphones, bluetouth, ...) in everyday objects to facilitate their use and the rethinking of the container spaces of objects, because they are changing with the necessities.
Participants of this editionThe network of participants in this edition, 2017, consists of a wide range of entities and people, all of them interact in this project, to a greater or lesser extent, to make viable what could not individually. These are:
Mobles 114 (www.m114.com): Editor company of contemporary furniture, based in Barcelona, National Design Prize 2001 (Spain).
Jaime I University (www.uji.es) was the first university in the country to offer the degree of Technical Engineering in Industrial Design, germ of the current Degree in Engineering in Industrial Design and Product Development. Which makes him have a great experience and prestige in the teaching of design. The students who participate in this event are the students of the last year of the Degree with a better qualifications and who have presented the best proposals to participate in this project.
Julia Galán, Professor in the Degree of Design of the Universitat Jaume I is the promoter and global manager of the project and impeller of its visibility in different national and international fairs and events.
Vicent Clausell, product designer (www.clausellstudio.com), is in charge of managing the different branches of the project, from the workshop where the proposals are developed, through the contact with the different collaborators and participants, to the direction of art of the exhibitions where the project is presented.
Other collaborators: The Instituto Cervantes (cession of the exhibition space), El Ajuntament de Castelló (sponsor) and Finsa (collaborates with materials for the exhibition space).
ProposalsLINE SHELVING (Miguel Oury):
Simplicity, functionality, minimalism and timelessness. These are the words that define Line shelving. It's a shelving designed with pure geometric and architectonic lines that is specially thought to fit in a domestic enclosure. The different sizes and its modularity give the possibility of generating different shapes depending on the necessities of the user. The beauty is given by
OBBO UMBRELLA STAND (Judit Andreu, Alba Puerta, Núria Vernís, Francisco Viciano, Paula Usó)
This is not only an umbrella stand or a mere decoration,
Not only is functionality or innovation,
Not only is aesthetic or honesty of form,
It's much more than that. It is Obbo, it is design.
Obbo is an umbrella stand which born from a reflection between the concepts “to contain” and “to support”.
It is the union between simplicity and attraction which makes the piece does not pass unnoticed.
It is a modular design that allows growth and it is therefore perfect for public facilities such as hotels and restaurants, without giving up private spaces.
OCTA PAPER BIN (Borja Sánchez)
The philosopher Plato associated the five elements of nature (Air, Earth, ether, fire and water) to the five regular polyhedron also known as Platonic Solids (tetrahedron, hexahedron, Octahedron, Dodecahedron and Icosahedron). Octa comes from Octahedron, which symbolizes Air, element that inspires its design.
Bins are closed and watertight, a space where dirt and reek often accumulates. Octa’s design and aluminium structure instead let the air and the sight flow through its openings, bringing a visual freshness, which opposes to the traditional bin concept.
Material optimization was taken into account during the design process so four bins can get made from a single aluminium sheet using the 80% of it and letting the wasting material in one single piece so it can be used in another project.
ONA PAPER BIN (Carlos Joaquín, Joan Martí, Michael Alexander, Vicent Blai Orts)
Ona is a waste container with a clean and clear appearance. It follows a line of timeless product. We can observe a dynamic figure, which is reinforced with its colours that can be adapted to a wide range of indoor spaces and different stiles. Its sinuous details their simple shape offers a smart solution. Due to its vertical spaces it is possible to eliminate the unpleasant smell of the waste.
The objective of this product is not only its use as a waste container, but also the new experience of showing the item instead of hiding it. We have tried to create a beautiful and functional item that contains the waste that people produce. Therefore, It offers a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.
TOTEM RIC (Miguel Oury):
The charging totem Ric emerge from a necessity that is generated by the use of mobile devices in our daily routine. It's a charging station with minimalistic features for public use. Designed to be used in hostelry and business premises, and to recharge mobile devices. It's a differentiating and attractive element that gives a plus to the surroundings.
The recharge is due through Qi wireless charge and USB ports with QuickCharge technology. Its wireless mobile system uses an internal battery that is capable of recharging 6 devices during 3 hours.
