In 2009, as part of the "Value Country" initiative, the State Property Agency announced and awarded the concession with the related recovery project to the company Dogana Vecchia s.r.l., stipulating a special fifty-year concession for valorisation. Only later, in the course of granting, is there an opportunity to divest the public patrimony, and the Dogana Vecchia s.r.l. acquires in 2017 the ownership of the property sold by the State through Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The project and the start of the works for the functional recovery of the building called Ex-Dogana Vecchia di Molfetta, is the final act of a complicated bureaucratic-economic process that aims to enhance it through restoration and recovery to tourism-accommodation purposes. Therefore, the valorisation focused on the philological reading of the original state of the places is necessary, design refinement and execution of the works stratified and coherent. A virtuous circuit has been set up between private enterprise and public bodies for the economic momentum of an entire area devoted to hospitality, focusing on the potential of a city like Molfetta, heart of the national navy and suggestive seaside village waiting to be discovered and appreciated by the visitor who chooses it as a travel destination to discover the pearls of the Adriatic and the Murgia Federiciana or the business man who knows how to combine business and relaxation. This is the second Italian enhancement intervention and the first in southern Italy, a pilot project that will lead, it is hoped, to a good practice of systemising assets that are often abandoned but of great value for the economy and the development of entire communities . A private investment certainly among the most important in recent years in Molfetta and in the north of Bari. Works were carried out under the artistic direction of milanese design firm NCBARCHITETTURA, who also developed the interior design concept and the brand image of this exclusive apulian destination.
