Sacrosanct

This project was inspired by my visit to Rome. Growing up Catholic in rural South Africa, my mom used to walk for 4 hrs to church. She never imagined that 40 yrs later, she would visit the heart of her faith, the Vatican. Observing her in the cathedrals made me see parallels between how beautifully maintained the buildings are and how African women, almost obsessively, tend to their own homes. Including work by other South African designers further speaks to our culture of fostering community. This installation is the first step to launching South African design as a category brand.
