Eight Heads High

Eight Heads High by HATO presents an immersive digital installation that invites the audience to take part in the design of a typeface with their bodies.

Inspired by Italian artistic movements, from humanism up to the present days, Hato interprets the central importance of Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man through nowadays tools and languages. People’s bodies will be the core device for creating the letters that will compose the final alphabet. Once ready, the latter we’ll be shareable and usable on any kind of computer.

Graphic Design practice – says Ken Kirton, Hato founder – has to be geared to inspire people, but most of all, has to give people a tool to make intelligible their inner creativity. We see graphic design as a language for people to express their ideas and to collaborate together on making the world a better place.

The project falls under the research category that Hato calls “Playtotype”, a system that gives people the chance to learn while playing, by maximising participants’ creativity and design skills.

During the Milano Design Week, the gallery will exceptionally remain open every day, from 14h30 to 20. It will resume its regularly scheduled program until the 15th of July.

HATO, is a design studio based both in London and Hong Kong.

Changing the world is possible, if everyone has a way to communicate.

Hato’s will, is to design easy to use and playful the tools to make this possible.
