Footwear and furniture are both about refined materials, about interpreting and anticipating taste and its transformations, and both combine and require function and beauty. Footwear and furniture can also share countless stories, about their designers, makers, and users. In this case, they also share a story of friendship, that between Deborah Baker, the creator of the Fiorentini+Baker brand, and Fiorenza Tarroni, founder of Modernario; these two women are the life and soul of this unique project where shoes designed by Deborah, and Fiorenza’s handpicked designer furniture, come together in a celebration of twentieth-century aesthetics. A project that is not about nostalgia, but about updating and reusing traces of the past to interpret, by means of a lamp or a pair of boots, the protean nature of our present.
Modernario
Founded in 2017 by Fiorenza Tarroni and Francesco Bernardi, Modernario is the place to find vintage designer furniture, lamps, and accessories from the twentieth century. In its small showroom location in Via Rialto 22 in Bologna, Modernario’s selection of furniture and accessories reflects the owners’ ongoing research in Italy and abroad. Trained as a restorer, since the 1990s Fiorenza Tarroni has been working as an interior decorator and consultant for homes and public spaces. Francesco Bernardi specialises in sourcing and identifying designer objects.
Fiorentini + Baker
