The 20 students of the Master of Arts in Design and Applied Arts started from the theme of nature and were pushed to redesign shapes and typologies
Over the last few months the students of the Creative Academy of Milan (international design school of the Richemont Group) have worked hand in hand with Alberto Nespoli and Domenico Rocca from Eligo to develop objects inspired by wood. The result of this work will be presented from 4th April to 29th May at Poldi Pezzoli Museum.
The 20 students of the Master of Arts in Design and Applied Arts started from the theme of nature and were pushed to redesign shapes and typologies. The purpose of the project was to create lego-made objects using two of the most noble and ancient working techniques: cabinetmaking and turning.
The cabinetmaker Giordano Viganò, appointed Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere (MAM) in 2016, guided them to the discovery of cabinetmaking. The master has been working on the making of special objects, furniture, models and pieces for over fifty years in his workshop in Novedrate (Como).
The students arranged the wood turning with the help of the expert hands of one of the very few living masters of Brianza, Carlo Meloni, a benchmark for designers and companies for his long experience in this type of woodworking technique.
The students started from a personal research of the archetypes linked to their culture: the traditions of South Africa, China, South Corea, France, England, Italy, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland and Australia were a source of inspiration for themes, types and suggestions deeply linked to these territories.
The close contact between masters of excellence and young designers was also the key ingredient of the project: thanks to the guidelines of Eligo and the masters, the designers were able to exchange views on the choice of shapes, essences and techniques verifying on site the limits of the project and the feasibility of the ideas born by their creative talent.
Natural Talent is promoted in partnership with Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte and sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels.
