Winds of innovation from Rio de Janeiro arrive in Milan
Come rain or shine, the stimulating atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro will be in full bloom, from April 12 to 17, in the city of Milan. For the eighth consecutive year, the exhibition Rio+Design will arrive in the capital of Lombardy, coinciding with Design Week, and featuring the best creative output from this fascinating Brazilian location. Organized by the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, through the Secretary for Economic Development, the exhibition is sponsored by the Sebrae-RJ, the Apex-Brasil, and the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN-SENAI), with support from the Italo-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro.
The innovative spirit of Rio de Janeiro inspired designers will be expressed, in the exuberant Zona Tortona, through the creations of 15 representatives. More than 30 products will be exhibited: from furniture to kitchen items, from lights to jewelry.
"Milan Design Week is an important showcase for the launch of the innovative creations of designers from Rio de Janeiro. And over the years we have established a schedule of meetings with entrepreneurs and partners during the Rio+Design, continually aiming for fruitful international exchanges and new business opportunities,” says the Secretary of Economic Development of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Dulce Ângela Procópio.
Elected Designer of Year by Maison & Objet Americas tradeshow in 2015, Zanini de Zanine will present, among other products, the armchair "Nanda" (a tribute to his mother, Fernanda) designed for his brand “Studio Zanini”. In wood, with leather upholstery, the object is inspired by the lightness, comfort and compactness of furniture created in the 50s by his father, Zanine Caldas, a famous master self-taught artist, designer and architect. Other news to come from Zanini is the armchair "Pé" (in English, Foot), designed for his other brand, “Atelier Zanini de Zanine”. Completely handmade, this piece is made with reclaimed wood and painted with natural wax, and is limited to only 40 pieces.
The award-winning designer Indio da Costa will reveal his first line of sofas: called "Planos" is part of "Indio da Costa Design Collection". With an innovative design, the range is characterized by contemporary and bold styles. The metal structure seems to float and enables new standards in perceptions of weightlessness, a reduction in volume and in the construction of this kind of furniture. Leather lined, metal bases have visible borders, finished with leather laces, complete what is an unique look. The range includes poufs, armchairs and two or three seat sofas, in symmetrical and asymmetrical versions, which allow for various combinations.
The versatile designer Leo Eyer, from the studio “Bold”, continues to concentrate on self-production and focusing on the line of lamps "Cafusa", a metaphor for the mixture of races that characterizes Brazil and expressed through the harmonious combination of different materials. Another new product to be featured is the stool "Palafita": the name of this object is a reference to the stilts, which are used to support the wooden houses located on the banks of rivers, for example, in the Amazon region. Functional and simple, these stools comfortably accommodate any person due to the padding in high density foam and furthermore are also conveniently stackable. Also participating in the Rio+Design: Bolei, Marzio Fiorini, Next-Puc-Rio, Gustavo Martini, Tatiana Berenguer, Ni Romiti, Diogo Dalloz, Vinicius Braga, Nocca Atelier, Paula Mourão, A.Costa Atelier e Vanessa Robert.
