Tools with one and only practical function: the pleasure of designing a satisfying form

Almost toys, almost sculptures, almost poetry.

Studio Masiero, in conjunction with the 2016 Milan Design Week, diversifies its artistic proposal by presenting a design exhibition for the first time.

The exhibition will present TocTocLab objects, a design workshop conceived by Matteo Bissaca, a designer that, with aesthetic balance and constructive skills, mixes creativity and poetry to give birth to tools intended to foster creative interaction between kids and grownups.

Big Wall, Puddle, ElasTricks, Metrosauro, PaperJoy and Ikebana are designed for playful design. They require concentration, manual skills, creative tension.

Some toys have fixed structures and must necessarily be carried out in a prescribed pattern (puzzle), others start from simple forms and let the constructive choice free (Lego). TocTocLAB objects dissolve these bonds and leave space for individual projects and composition skills. Using materials and tools that kids know very well: paper, scissors, elastic bands, wooden yardsticks, water, colors. Adults have the task of learning how to guide kids into the design process. Through the suggestion of a “tale”, they interact in creating objects and relationships full of poetry and love.

Creative workshops will be held in the gallery during the exhibition. By drawing with Puddle, cutting out with PaperJoy or turning Ikebana from a vase of lotus flowers in a flock of herons from orange beak, you will be able to create your own "good piece”.

As pointed out by Monica Racic in her introductory text "If TocTocLAB objects recall the teachings of the master Bruno Munari for the enlightened simplicity that characterizes them, they have, in their versatility and total openness, a surprisingly innovative character. They allow going beyond stereotypes and predefined models by inventing freely. A freedom that involves anyone who approaches them - adults and kids together - to mix thoughts, to stay close, to brush against each other, to find oneself in a real encounter, in the poetry of dealing with one’s own hands."
