WORDS AND IMAGES IN THE ADVERTISING MESSAGE: WHAT HAS CHANGED IN THE LAST DECADES

What has changed in the advertising art in the last decades ? Watching an old advertising poster or an old TV spot we become fascinated by the images and contents of the message. Why is it then that the current advertising style doesn’t give us any emotion and we rapidly forget the message ?

Do you know the vintage posters from the last century ? Come and enjoy them ! The elegant women by Mucha or Dudovich, the art of surprising of Cappiello, the freshness of a Boccasile girl or the bright ability of synthesis expressed by Armando Testa just few decades ago. How and why now advertising is so different in terms of words, images, productive processes, customers and target populations ?

The idea was born during the ongoing activity of an old poster shop in Milano. In fact a lot of young people coming in are astonished by these little artworks. Some of them work in the advertising field and asked themselves if something similar could be proposed to their currentb customers. Of course not, they said, similar messages would be rejected because believed to be shocking or difficult to understand.   

We will discuss about these changes with prof. Daniela Salina, because these were part of her life when she worked in the ad world and because she studied the phenomenon in the end becoming an academic expert in this field.
