SUSANNAH BOSANQUET (13 aprile)
dal 16 aprile 2012 al 22 aprile 2012
The world’s most influential furniture fair, the Salone del Mobile in Milan, is the arena for the worldwide premiere of SWELL by Christopher Jenner.
From 17th – 22nd of April the Sala Napoleonica in the Accademia di Brera will be the dramatic setting to the allagorical installation ‘The Looking Glass House’ which invites the curious to step inside and discover the designer’s new capsule collection.
To enter into ‘The Looking Glass House’ is to be immersed in a realm of fantasy which at once disorientates the senses and captivates the imagination.
Inside, 700 spheres cocoon the pieces, playfully refracting light and colour. A mirrored floor reveals a notable hallmark of the collection: underside detail that is every bit as exquisite.
The seven SWELL pieces take inspiration from childhood play, English carriages and classic furniture to exuberantly reinterpret the established canon of form and shape. Pushing boundaries and redefining relations with traditional craftsmanship, the collection is produced using extensive and technological manufacturing processes.
Entirely British made, it features deeply buttoned calf leather benches, ottomans, and stools in a spectrum of complimentary colours, whilst sand cast tables with glass legs and hand blown lamps in metallic finishes add a touch of magic. Each piece bears testimony to the tangible luxury and distinction that comes from uniquely
combining traditional craftsmanship and cutting edge technology.
'SWELL was designed with the specific intent of stirring emotions' says Christopher Jenner from his London studio. 'I want my work to have simple and immediate appeal’. ‘I believe that design should be instinctive and individual - a direct response to the mass produced tyranny of good taste.
Whilst SWELL is Christopher Jenner's first furniture collection the designer has made a mark with luxury brands internationally. These include the first Penhaligon’s store in Asia with a second scheduled for Milan this summer. And the Kettle One Bar in London, with its stunning radial copper bar that is almost prehistoric in presence. The tam tam continues with a global string of flagship developments for French brand Diptyque and the launch of the studio’s new shelving collection DEVISOR.
