Remake Ceramics - Nature Calling

Ceramics recycling

At last year’s Ventura Future, Fabrique Publique showed the first results from its research into the possibility of reusing broken and/or discarded ceramics as a valuable resource for making new ceramics. This was the step called ‘Future History’, showing a set of plates with a 10% recycled content added to the porcelain clay.

The first set op this tableware was sold to two star restaurant De Lindehof in Nuenen (NL).

This year, the next steps with respect to ceramics recycling will be shown, again at Ventura Future. Tests with higher percentages of recycled content have been carried out, as well as tests with smaller/bigger type of grains, specific colors as well as re-recycling.

Next to these tests, the application to a set of vases and lights will be showcased. Both the tests and the products have been made with porcelain and stoneware clay.

The presentation ‘Nature Calling’ will show what recycled content means for tactility and outlook of the designs.

The vases are organically shaped, referring to the beauty of nature, with which they seem to fit in seemlessly. ‘Nature Calling’, the name of the exhibition, not only refers to the organic shape of the products, but also reminds us that we have only one planet and that we have to start using our resources more carefully.

This research project consists of different phases and this is only the second step.
