DOS_DESIGN OPEN' SPACES WIDSPREAD DISTRICT

09 - 14 APRIL 2019 | DESIGN | CULTURE | EVENTS | FOOD

Milan, 09 - 14 April 2019 - DOS_Design Open' Spaces, the first district of the Milan Design Week promoted by Re.Rurban Studio and Emilio Lonardo Design, at its first edition, enhances the exhibitions and events on most of the Milanese territory thanks to the collaboration with the City of Milan an Milan Polytechnic.

For the first time in the history of Milan Design Week, the City Council has become a protagonist, providing some forgotten spaces, so that they can be recognized, used and returned to the city. All this thanks to the commitment of the people behind DOS, an organization born from the synergistic collaboration between public institutions and private actors that with their work lead to reopen forgotten spaces, working through the practices of design, to make them available again to the community.

In particular, the DOS project presents:

DOS_HEADQUARTER, the collective exhibition of young designers in the former Casello Daziario in Piazza 24 Maggio, 2.

DOS_WIDESPREAD DISTRICT, a route composed of many locations that branches off among all the districts of Milan Design Week. The locations will be a showcase of companies and designers who have contributed to the reactivation of these fantastic places unfortunately forgotten. The route starts from Piazza 24 Maggio to reach Tortona (via Solari 40), Brera (Corso Garibaldi 89/91), Isola (via Pepe 38), Sarpi (Torre Liprando), Bovisa (Repubblica del Design).

DOS_PARTY TIME, a series of events, different every day, that will create an ad-hoc soundscape for the collective exhibition in the Headquarters of Piazza 24 Maggio (09/04 Vitamina, 10/04 Nøid, 11/04 Breakout, 12/04 La Forêt, 13/04 Mokambo Vinyl District, 14/04 Arcana).

DOS_Design Open Spaces is the youngest district in the panorama of Fuorisalone and presents its program of exhibitions and events promoting them through the site designopenspaces.it and the paper map, available during the week, and telling day by day the programming of events and exhibitions of Fuorisalone 2019. At its first edition, it selects and promotes the events, exhibitions and the best shops of the districts that host the different locations.

DOS_Design Open Spaces is part of the Milanese circuit of Fuorisalone.it that unites all the Milanese events during the period of the Milan Design Week, with the patronage of the City of Milan.

In the heart of Milan, in the characteristic former Casello Daziario in Piazza 24 Maggio, the Headquarters of the project will be animated with the collective exhibition of young designers on the first floor, which offers a breathtaking view of the dock, and with parties dedicated to the Milan Design Week under the porch. Great space will also be given to media partners who will report live, hour by hour, minute by minute, the life of the project and of the connected locations, all through posts on social networks, dedicated podcasts, live shooting sessions and interviews with designers and artists. A Temporary Book Store with a Design theme will be set up on the ground floor of the Headquarters. There will also be space for good food with the various food trucks strategically positioned in the magnificent area of the square.

The young designers who will be exhibiting at the headquarters share the same innovative approach and "lateral thinking" in the production process of the works: ILLUMINAZIONI collective, a format that brings together artists who love experimenting with lighting design; Lucio del Gottardo, who creates luminous sculptures and installations inspired by the sacred shadows of Salento; SC Concrete, a project by Simona Covello with which she creates lamps, jewels and furnishing objects, using cement as the raw material with the ability to make them appear light and soft; THESIGN Gioielli, a couple of designers who create jewels printed in 3D from the recording of a sound or a phrase; Filomena Violante, interior designer who is passionate about visual arts and uses fabrics to furnish; the architect Riccardo Grancini with her research on forms; Leonardo Aurelio and his woodworking; Massimiliano Marcelia, modern and contemporary mosaic artist; Genesio Pistidda and Roberto Loliva with their lamp for exteriors and interiors that does not produce light, but absorbs it and fragments it.

The headquarters in Piazza 24 Maggio is also the expression of an environmentally friendly approach to regeneration, which is reflected in the collaboration with Airlite, a revolutionary technology for exterior and interior painting that can eliminate pollution by transforming pollutants into inert minerals in contact with natural or artificial light. The headquarters in Porta Genova is also the expression of an environmentally friendly approach to regeneration, which is reflected in the collaboration with Airlite, a revolutionary technology for exterior and interior painting capable of eliminating pollution by transforming, in contact with natural or artificial light, pollutants into inert minerals. The interior of the building thus becomes an air purifier.
