The design by Abdi Abdelkader

From 4 to 28 April 2019 Il Mondo dei Vetro will present a selection of works by the designer Abdi Abdelkader at the LaMari Creative Shopping concept store. From the furniture to the glass works, the works presented have different materials and techniques, but all are based on two essential elements for this designer: graphics and color. With a career of over 35 years, Abdi Abdelkader still works for the most important design brands, including Alessi and Bisazza, as well as having received numerous awards such as the SM d'Argent, the Prix de la Presse Internationale de la Critique du Meuble Contemporain and the Prix de l'Innovation. His design is inspired by and unites two different cultures with which he has a deep connection: the native one of North Africa and that of European adoption. As Abdi himself says "The tradition and the Algerian atmosphere with the artisans of the neighborhood and of the casbah, the traditional architecture with railings and studded doors mixes with the European one giving me a great creative force. All this allows me to consider my creations without the notion of time or space, but with the spirit of a nomad. " Another source of inspiration is plastic art, from painting to sculpture. It is no coincidence that art considers the pillar of design. Each of his works is the story of a new story, a new interpretation and the creation of new scenarios. Ivano Balestrieri, organizer of the exhibition, talking about Abdi tells "He is a versatile designer, able to go from industry to self-production, to the single piece and, every time, give poetry to the technique. And this is noticeable in work, in every gesture. This is why we have chosen to bring his works to Milan, precisely during the most stimulating and important period of year for the city in terms of the design sector: the Fuori Salone. The exhibition will be a tribute by Abdi Abdelkader to Alessandro Mendini, his dear friend.
