On Thursday April 10 at 6.30pm the neon>fdv space in Milan will open the show: Notebook numero zero, oggetti a funzione estetica. This exhibition explores aspects of the planning stages of design-related art, the union between the mental framework of the artistic process and the aesthetic framework of design.
It has been conceived and organized as a collective narrative, which the artists were invited to take part in, starting from their own precise inclination, working towards a set concept, and therefore towards personal experimentation and different kinds of spaces and objects.
Notebook numero zero is an exploration, part of a gradually evolving discourse; the zero issue of a future project that attempts to trace the ties between different areas and languages, a notebook, sketch pad or scrapbook for ideas and images, a laptop.
For this first edition the investigation looks to Italy to present the works and projects of some of the most interesting emerging artists. During the past few years the modus operandi of artists and designers has become more and more entwined. Design, with the application of new technologies, has developed greater interest in decoration and sensitive surfaces, paying attention to the dematerialized component of conceptual thought tied to the object, approaching contemporary artistic strategies. On the other hand, materials, technology and manufacturing techniques, whether hand-made or mass-produced, are currently some of the main components upon which contemporary art projects are based.
By highlighting the specific characteristics of various artists, the exhibition aims to show how it is no longer possible to define aesthetic or material limits that the two, diverse disciplines must not cross. On the contrary, it shows how attention to the stimulus of the various aesthetic components is of equal concern to both. The intention is to underline the ability of the artistic process and artistic thought to transform itself, with a growing tendency to rebuild active relations with the external fields, with culture, science and history.
To coincide with the 47th International Furniture Show, on Wednesday April 16, at 8.00pm the gallery neon>fdv is holding an opening party as part of the annual event promoted by Fabbrica del Vapore: Posti di Vista 08.
