Milano Salone 2008 Yamaha Design Exhibition “key for you”
Yamaha presents advanced design digital pianos/keyboards for creating communication between people and musical instruments.

The Design Institute of Yamaha, an all-round manufacturer of musical instruments, will hold a design exhibition featuring digital keyboards of advanced design.

A musical instrument is an excellent tool for extracting human potential when played. An acoustic instrument, in particular, has great significance as an interior decoration with its functional design and presence. On the other hand, an electronic musical instrument, especially a digital keyboard, has made dramatic progress in its scope of expression and performance along with technological advances. It has been widely accepted by users who play music for enjoyment or have been fulfilling the needs in educational fields through their performance-supporting functions and reasonable pricing. As the digital pianos/keyboards become familiar to all because of the functionality and benefits they offer, their designs need to incorporate such factors as the inherent functional beauty of musical instrument, the universality of skill improvement over extended use, a presence that arouses the craving to have one and a sense of attachment, and the representation to act as an intermediary in human communications.

Focusing attention on the new possibilities of electronic musical instruments, Yamaha, as a manufacture of both acoustic and digital musical instruments, has been searching for originality in digital pianos/keyboards, which can be realized only with a body of a high degree of freedom unrestricted by physical resonance. Our target is a design that has the functional beauty and universality inherent of a musical instrument and is appropriate for creating “linkage” between a person and the musical instrument, as well as establishing person-to-person “relationships”. Going back to our starting point, Yamaha proposes at MilanoSalone 2008 digital pianos/keyboards of seven advanced designs as the “key” to the seven different living scenes. Placing importance on both visual and tactile impressions of the carefully selected materials, the form has been shaped by reconstructing internal components from scratch. It is the embodiment of a simple yet profound design that will add value as time goes by.

At the venue “Spazio Bugatti”, you can experience the seven scenes featuring our seven new designs, represented by an installation that is simple with minimal decoration but full of wits. At the same time, constant live performances with the exhibited three digital pianos of our latest design will provide comfortable ambient music. In the courtyard where demonstrators will offer mini-live performances on various electronic musical instruments, every guest can casually try playing them.
