CARRARA MARMOTEC: MARBLE, TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN
The 29th edition of CarraraMarmotec 2008 – International Fair of Marbles, Technologies and Design, scheduled from May 29th to June 1st 2008, represents the fair of the turning point.
This turning point as been necessary and determined by the need to keep on providing an effective and modern promotional tool to the natural stone industry.
For 28 years the special quality of CarraraMarmotec has been to offer the best of the international market to the visitor in terms of raw, manufactured and semimanufactured materials as well as the most advanced technology in terms of equipments for the excavation and making of these materials. The market, however, does not keep still and the offer has to adapt itself consequently.
The demand from this leading sector of the international economy has changed deeply, the market conditions have changed, new markets have boomed, competitiveness has become very aggressive. CarraraMarmotec brave and clever turing point aims at voicing and giving visibility to this new trend of the stone industry.
CARRARA MARMOTEC BECOMES A BIENNIAL FAIR
Optimizing resources to invest in promotion has become an inaneliable need for big as well as small entreprises. CarraraMarmotec, which has always been a reference fair for international operators, has decided to become a biennial event. This choice will allow the enterprises, which want to exhibit, and also the visitors, who do not want to break the appointment with Carrara, to plan in the best way the resources to be allocated for the participation to fairs.
NEW MARKET SCENARIOS
The fair outline has also to adapt itself to new market trends. A greater dynamism, a higher specialisation, less time at one’s disposal, lower economic resources.....need to rationalise.
As a matter of fact the changing of course by CarraraMarmotec is deeply rooted in its past, in its tie with the surrounding territory that is the centre of one of the best known stone districts in the world as well as an unchanged destination for sculptors, architects and designers with an international reputation.
CarraraMarmotec has decided to change its fair profile thanks to its past and to the meaning of Carrara as a synonimous of natural stone, in order to propose itself or to propose itself again as a meeting centre and as an offer for trend setters, architects, deisgners, for those who decide to employ a material rather than an other one. It results the need to promote the use of natural stone for the design sector in particular.
A SIGNIFICANT PRESENCE IN AN INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT.
CarraraMarmotec at Fuori Salone in Milano. The Zona Tortona reception will be built completely in marble with the coordination by Giulio Cappellini and the reception will be under the logo of CarraraMarmotec and of natural stone.
Why? Because CarraraMarmotec wants to strengthen and to promote the relationship between Natural Stone industry and Design and Architecture world. Because Natural Stone is able to speak the modern Architecture’s language. Because Milan and Fuori Salone are the inalienable international appointement for the Design world.
DESIGN AND PLANNING WORLD COMPARES WITH MARBLE CHARM
At CarraraMarmotec 2008. Teaching the use of the natural stone through the experience of the great names of Architecture and Design and encouraging the new generation of professional people to take into account stone materials in the same ways as wood, glass, steel and composite materials.
How?
By celebrating the past and the present (poorly known but extremely important), by means of the International Award of Architecture – Marble Architectural Awards – this year it is its 24th edition, by means of an award to the career that paid a tribute to names like Mario Botta and Hans Kollhoff -.
By helping the future by means of the Dressed Stone Design Awards, a competition aiming at promoting the use of natural stone “communicating” with other materials, among students of architecture and design faculties and schools, among young designers.
By supporting the transformation companies that made design and architecture be their missions.
A BRIDGE BETWEEN ENTREPRISES AND INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE
CarraraMarmotec promotes relationships between transformation companies and architects/designers helping and supporting their meeting. Companies will be asked to house their works. The cooperation between the two parties will result in the building of a reception table as the symbol of meeting and of housing. At CarraraMarmotec 2008 it will be paved the way for these collaborations whose products will be exhibited during the fair witnessing the importance of the project sharing.
THE 2008 EDITION
The 2008 fair, thanks to the participation of companies, has to become the showing centre for the above mentioned topics. Stands have to show the item, by item we do not mean blocks and slabs, but the showing off of the natural stone through its applications; companies have therefore to show the use of marble and not the material itself. The aim is to teach the use of natural stone as well as to consider CarraraMarmotec as a meeting place for all those who , by means of the hints obtained during the fair, will suggest, in their turn, the natural stone as the material.
THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE
A Scientific Committee has been established, consisting of architects, one designer, journalists, experts of customs and representatives of the contemporary culture. The Scientific Committee’s task is to define the cultural limits of the CarraraMarmotec project in order to identify, from year to year, therefore since 2008 already, the subjects for high professional profile meetings that will take place during the Fair.
THE FAIR AND THE TERRITORY
The town of Carrara is strongly involved. The town, in particular Piazza Alberica (second half of the sixteenth century), the centre of the town of Carrara, as a housing place as well as final point where the results of all the above mentioned promotional operations are directed to. In the background the lit quarries and the empathetic use of plays of light will help to convey the natural stone through the emotions that it will excite in the eyes of those who will take part to the special party CarraraMarmotec will organise for them.
