FUORI SALONE ISOLA
(14th–19th  April 2010)

OPENING – WEDNESDAY 14th APRIL, 12pm – MIDNIGHT
Starting from Garibaldi Station in via Pepe, up to via Thaon de Revel,
with street bands, aperitifs, exhibitions, music and various performances.

Event in collaboration with:
Association of artisans and shopkeepers of via Pepe, via Borsieri and via Thaon de Revel
Isola Neighbourhood, Milan
IUAV University of Venice
Designersblock, London.

The aMAZElab cultural workshop, which has for years been committed to valorising the local territory, on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile 2010, together with the eighth edition of the GREEN ISLAND (co/Stazione Garibaldi) project, presents the creation of a FUORI SALONE ISOLA network.

FUORI SALONE ISOLA is designed to valorise the highpoints of creativity and design to be found in the Isola neighbourhood, mapping and bringing together the workshops of artists, artisans and shopkeepers from the area around via Pepe up to via Thaon de Revel, with an itinerary designed to encourage respect for the environment, a sense of belonging to the community, and the rediscovery of a “slow” neighbourhood, one reflecting a human dimension, with low food miles culinary offerings.

GREEN ISLAND. The Urban Orchard – Il Frutteto Urbano
The project for the new edition consists in the creation of a beautiful and colourful “orchard” designed by the Dutch architect Ton Matton, who took part in the Architecture Biennial of Venice in 2008. The installation, in the entrance hall of Garibaldi Station, is made up of dozens of fruit trees planted in coloured vases by Ton Matton supported with an eco-friendly self-feeding system put together by the Dutch designer.

Special Project – Shop Windows & Design – Vetrine & Design
The special event for the 2010 edition will make use of a number of the front windows of shops and crafts workshops to host design objects produced as part of the Master in Interactive Design at the IUAV University of Venice, on the theme of sustainability and social design.

The FUORI SALONE ISOLA circuit thus intends to carry on and strengthen the idea of collaborating with the organisations that have contributed to the growth of the area, alongside the presence of international names such as the Designersblock from London, who have chosen the Isola neighbourhood as their “home from home” for the week of the Fuori Salone.
