Laboratorio DAGAD Architecture & Industrial Design Research Centre
EXTRABILITY is conceived as a project based on three stages.
An exhibition on products design for disabilities on the occasion of the Fuorisalone 2010, a one-year-period workshop during which designers, companies, research institutes, and universities will work on projects starting from products for disabled people. Eventually, an exhibition for the Fuorisalone 2011 will show the workshop’s results.
During the “furniture week” 2010, with the patronage of many important institutions operating in the disability field and more in general in that of research, many themes intervened in this project and in the mass production will be analysed along with their relation between its formal, ergonomic and aesthetic research. The objective of this work, developed through research, workshop and project is two-fold:
On one hand, to give a relevant contribution to products for the world of disability, by introducing the aesthetic quality theme and by analysing formal and ergonomic aspects. Important designers will be asked to conceive objects, prototypes and researches for a target which they might have never dealt with. On the other, to try rediscussing some “standards” of the industrial design which have remained unchanged in shape, ergonomics’ conception and use for decades, by analysing “different products”.
On April 16th at 5.30 p.m. at Laboratorio DAGAD’s headquarter, a round table is gathering all the pro¬tagonists: architects, designers, companies, research institutes, universities that joined this project in order to launch the workshop’s activity.
Laboratorio DAGAD is one of the labs associated with La Fabbrica del Vapore; they are a founder member of the Cultural FDVLAB Association.
A research, documentation and study centre about architecture and industrial design, it has been an active promoter of exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and cultural exchanges with others institutes and universities in Italy as well as abroad.
