ONEOFF Design Research
For Fuori Salone 2010 Recession Design, in collaboration with ONEOFF, continues its research of design themes, investigating environments other than the domestic and actuating the D.I.Y. Design philosophy successfully launched at last year's Furniture Fair and at the MAK Museum in Vienna during Vienna Design Week.
The economic crisis becomes a pretext and opportunity to reflect on the contemporary design world. Through a provocation-exhibition on the subject of "DIY DESIGN" the theme of "designing" is presented in an ironic (but not too much) manner that surpasses the trends and fashions of the moment and returns the pure form and function of the object to the centre of the design process.
An event-show with a provocative theme and title but that opens an interesting debate on the meaning of "DESIGNING" today.
The aim is to make objects with the common trait of being assembled with materials easily available in DIY shops, using every-day tools and accessories. Their simplicity and clean lines are the proof that good design can result from easily sourced materials and utensils. This year's collection explores new environments that take Recession Design out of the domestic sphere in a continual quest for new solutions. Recession Design is a research laboratory made up of a group of designers based in Milan together with the participation and involvement of designers from other countries, with the artistic direction of the studio Pop Solid.
The “Not At Home” project will be associated with the Milano-Cina Fuori Salone event organised in via Paolo Sarpi by the Association ALES with do-knit-yourself, and NABA. The aim is to draw attention to the opening of a relationship between the Chinese and Milanese communities which gives life to new project languages in which the two cultures meet to produce new forms and expressions.
The event-show will have live demonstrations on the following days:
Wednesday 14 April from 7:30 pm
15 April from 5pm to 9pm with the Milano-Cina Fuori Salone
16, 17 e 18 April from 6 pm to 8 pm
ONEOFFis one of the labs associated with La Fabbrica del Vapore; they are a founder member of the Cultural FDVLAB Association.
