A project conceived, produced and promoted by Angelo Grassi, ORTOFABBRICA will take place at the courtyard of via Savona 37 in the context of ZonaTortona Design 2010, from April 14 to 19. This event is in Media Partnership with PAYSAGE Editore Architettura del Paesaggio
After last year’s remarkable turnout and critical acclaim, this is the second edition of an event devoted to high quality creative practices such as architecture, product design, fashion, gourmet food-and-wine and art that come together in order to build a shared model of style, eco-sustainability and rehabilitation – meaning both reuse of materials and promotion of handmade and human-scale production.
The idea, the same as last year, is creating a sort of “vegetable garden” in the very heart of Milan with different creative expressions used in the name of a range of shared values: the simplicity and functional character of objects; the relevance of the past in the rediscovery of genuine feelings; the wisdom of nature applied to contemporary innovation; surrounding ourselves with high-quality and beautiful things.
The event will take place at the same venue of the first edition so that, once again, the nondescript courtyard of Via Savona 37, usually a parking area, will become a green and relaxed oasis sheltered from the city’s traffic and frenzy.
The courtyard is enclosed on three sides by apparently blank and neutral façades, with an unfinished architectural structure at the centre dating back to the late nineteenth century. Although totally renewed, the exhibition design is still focussed on the idea of rehabilitating and enhancing the architectural and cultural heritage of the place by interacting with the existing elements in order to create a completely original result.
Same venue but new protagonists – except for Angelo Grassi, who will propose “Vegetale”, a new collection of green outdoor furniture – for this second edition. Among the contributors a decorator, a gourmet food-and-wine company, landscape architects, clothes and leather goods manufacturers, all committed to the major goals of eco-sustainability and high-quality innovation. The many voices contributing to the “vegetable garden” will be directed by Angelo Grassi, acting once again as production manager.
On Saturday, April 17, 2010 Ortofabbrica will propose “Una serata nell’orto” [“A night in the vegetable garden”], an event organized to gather friends, collaborators, journalists, colleagues, fans, experts, and offer a night of good music, wonderful food and relax in a context that the frantic pace of daily life cannot reach: one last meaningful way of saying that we should find room in our lives for smart and pleasant activities.
For over thirty years, Angelo Grassi has worked as a designer and produced set and exhibition designs.
Over the last twenty years, he has worked at the rehabilitation of a decommissioned cement works, transforming an unhealthy and ruined building into a venue for design and craftsmanship, the performing arts, art and leisure. Fabbrica is a constantly changing venue that responds to the needs of its users in the utmost respect of its cultural and environmental heritage.
