Exhibition “HORM: Bellini-Holl design exchange”

Dates: from April 14th-19th 2010 from 11 am to 8.30 pm
Inauguration: April 14th from 18.00 to 22.00
“There are infinite possibilities for providing answers to innumerable requests, even when taken to the limit”. These are the thoughts of two international
exponents of architectural design who tried their hand at an entertaining
and unusual “game”, under the expert management of HORM, first
at the Milan furniture show and then in New York, on the occasion of the
ICFF. The aim of this game was to give new life to objects which form part of
our daily lives.
“Creating design involves having quick-fire intuition, finding an immediate
answer to a sudden need. But it is also being able to overturn those ideas,
in order to go ahead and arrive at the final solution”. This is how Mario Bellini
sums up the mental attitude which enabled him to accept the challenge to take part in the "Design Exchange"
organized by HORM. Seven lampshades of the Plywood Chandelier collection's lamp, from the original
design project by Steven Holl, will be transformed, by Mario Bellini’s playful ingenuity, into new and unusual
objects: a flower-pot holder, a fruit bowl, a coffee table...
Seven prototypes of the Ki chair by Mario Bellini were reinterpreted by the creative imagination of Steven
Holl to become a lamp, a ladder and a table. The thread which continues to tie the two artists to HORM demonstrates
the capacity that this company has to engender a sense of belonging to a homogeneous group,
to create interest and bring talented individuals together, and to do this with skill and sensitivity towards those
who share ideals.
