«The appeal of the arcane worlds of Mandala, India. This very fine organza is nearly a rediscovered material, almost impalpable like coloured air, but tangible and usable. Pure colour turns into a live and glittering form which composes and runs after its essence. A fascinating material that cannot be ignored, these are my tapestries».

Lisa Corti’s own words express the passion she feels for her designs: her unique tapestries on display at the Emporio in Via Lecco, in Milan during the International Salone del Mobile 2010. A product which merges unique handcraft with essential design and close attention to detail, but also an object boasting a millenary tradition, the tapestry was reinterpreted and revamped without losing its original purpose and attractive.

Gauzes combined with Indian silks or heavy tapestry cottons, velvets, flimsy muslins and organza fabrics coming from Sikh turbans or simple strips for colour sampling united with each other to create unique designs. The Mandala, geometric figure used by different oriental traditions, becomes the model to make many of these tapestries: rectangular fabric strips in different colours are juxtaposed to form a square or a rectangle with a lozenge or a square in the centre or an additional internal frame with floral motifs or stripes. Plus, the fabrics are printed with the old block printing manual technique, whose wood blocks, carved by skilful artists, are dipped in paint and appliquéd on the fabric, one by one, a colour on the other, as many times as the number of samples and shades that are required to complete the design.

The Paloma lamp will be presented together with the tapestry. It is designed by the artist Angelo Barcella. A beech wood core which unites lightweight material and shape with the versatility of different cloths that can be applied on the structure by means of Velcro. Plus, it can either hang from the wall or lay on a table. A new design which enriches the refined home fabric and furnishing line which every year Lisa Corti renews and proposes.
