Press release

After the clothes and accessories collection inspired by great masters of architecture and Futurism, Daniela Rondine proceeds with her very personal research journey, which is finalized to create a new style for contemporary women, having taken inspiration from the elegance of the first decades of the Twentieth Century.

Overtaking the limits of her usual scope of action, during FuoriSalone 2010 at the Fondazione Mudima from the 14th to the 20th of April, Daniela proposes 500% feminine, elegance found in cars. A customized car based on a Fiat 500 designed with the Atelier Castagna, “body-work stylists” active in Milan since 1849, specialized in the creation of one-off car designs that strongly reflect the client’s personality.

The Fiat 500 icon was reinterpreted in response to the unique and stylish principles that characterize the designer’s work, at the same time revisiting the idea of journey seen from a female point of view. Because women love to transform themselves in every new exclusive space they are in, so to be recognized, feel welcomed and welcome others.

In the 500% feminine project by Daniela Rondine we enter a car where originality, comfort and attention to detail compose a perfect alchemy.

Daniela Rondine believes in fact that “in order to go forwards and find new energy, it is necessary to go back and recover the beauty of simplicity, the quality of materials and of artisan skills, so as to combine them with Today’s challenges that impose a new attention towards the individual and nature.”

The designer was in fact inspired by nature while choosing colours, materials and aesthetical composition.

The 500% feminine bodywork has the typical gray-green changing shade of olive tree leaves made more precious by thin, light birch wood profiles, establishing a delicate relationship with the sky transparencies that penetrate the cockpit of the car through the crystal roof.

The interior covered in fabric welcomes the lucky woman driver. The tones start from a powdery blue and unravel into cinder, white and silver elements revealing graphic shapes that remind of butterfly wings. Doors, seats and dashboard continue the harmony game between materials and nuances, also thanks to the elegant turtledove coloured shiny suede inserts.

An “enveloping ensemble” is in such way composed, counterpointed by the coconut material used for the carpets bordered with ivory coloured leather, which is also used in the seats trimmings. In this particular setting, that welcomes like a home living-room, the most curious element stands out: the steering wheel. Inspired by the shape of a 1920’s hard band citrine quartz bracelet, Daniela Rondine chose to make it with a technological material witness of contemporary times, “winking” at the resin steering wheels that completed the on board equipment typical of the customized cars of the 40’s and 50’s.

The car is a sort of timeless jewel, strongly characterized by that everlasting elegance that women like Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy and Grace of Monaco knew how to wear.

We find the same shape inspiration in another jewel, this time in the accessories of Daniela Rondine’s new collection 2010, made for the occasion.

A bracelet, characterized by the same transparencies and shapes of the steering wheel with a rhodium silver metal part, is finely chained to a small handbag, creating Ala, the new jewel-pochette, a sophisticated and innovative solution for the city.

The garments of the new 500% collection reinterpret the soft shapes and deep necklines of the fashion of the 20’s, introducing, as a decorative element, sleeves made in voile embroidered with strass to cover the arms partially.

The high quality fabrics like woollen crêpe or charmelaine, silk satin and organza, play with pastel tones.

All the garments and accessories are realized by expert artisans according to the best tradition of the Made in Italy quality.

During the 500% feminine event, a few garments of Daniela Rondine’s previous creations inspired by Futurism and the first Bilbao and Grandi Maestri collections are exhibited.

The typical energy and dynamic nature of the Art Movement emerge in the products inspired by Futurism to which the designer dedicated the collection, juxtaposing bright colours and particular asymmetric cuts.

The Bilbao collection hats and bags are inspired by the titanium shapes of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and by the cut and curve of the surfaces and the colour shades found in Frank Gehry’s very original example of contemporary architecture.

For Daniela Rondine everything begins from the research of materials, especially of designer furnishing fabrics. Also the re-elaboration of the shapes of the 20’s and 30’s, which brought Daniela Rondine to produce the bonnets, typical of those times, with the essential shape that wraps, warms and enhances the face of the person who wears them. The same taste is found in the bags, purses and small square pochettes, made with the same unusual fabrics.

Amongst all of Daniela Rondine’s collections the element in common is the choice of fine natural fabrics, that have rigorous yet graceful designs; but also the high quality manufacture of the garments which allows the realization of a unique final product, a prestigious touch, original and charming for the wardrobe of a contemporary and 500% feminine woman!

DANIELA RONDINE, born in La Spezia in 1970, lives and works in Milan. She trained at the European Institute of Design of Milan where she met professionals of the sector who passed on their passion for design and architecture: her interest in materials and her curiosity in their different possibilities of use inspire her to a constant research from which fashion accessories, garments and, lately, even jewellery, are born. (Her most impressive pieces of jewellery are her strongly coloured resin necklaces and bracelets).

In 2007 she presented her first collection at Cloudnine (Pitti Immagine) in Milan and in the Paris Prêt-à-porter show room; at FuoriSalone 2008 her fashion accessories and garments were presented on the itinerant catwalk in an Ape Calessino Piaggio, the Italian-style icon vehicle. Last year in Zona Tortona she presented The energy of numbers in love, an installation thought for the collection of garments dedicated to Futurism. This year she chose to have an installation at the Fondazione Mudima in order to get closer to the world of cars, together with Castagna Milano, providing her elegant and classic and at the same time original ideal woman with a 500% feminine car.

Daniela Rondine’s creations deepen one step further the relationship between nature, contemporary life and the Made in Italy quality.
