MILAN FURNITURE FAIR 2010
“Nativo is a new collection of vases and containers that has come about through the exceptional union between the research of the Campana brothers into natural elements and the ethereal and liquid forms of the flexible resin of Corsi Design Factory”, so says the introduction to their new collection by the Campana brothers, whose remarks are echoed by Andrea Corsi “Working with the Campana brothers has been an extraordinary experience. It has propelled me into a world that is playful, emotionally demanding and powerful, into a kaleidoscope of forms and colours”.
Inlays and juxtapositions of various materials create contemporary objects that use a resin compound with numerous properties: it is fluid and malleable yet exceptionally tough and light, mutable and expressive with amazing aesthetics.
15 pieces for a collection that uses all the materials in the Campanas’ repertoire: leather, natural fibres and wooden branches are skilfully transformed into a wide variety of forms and figures.
“The irregular lines of the melted resin and the rough contours of the materials used for the decorations create objects with a strong visual impact that bring out the natural qualities of the matter”, explain the Campana brothers. The Brazilian brothers’ intention is in fact to highlight the primarily physical and instinctual aspect of the product, the beauty that emerges from the spontaneity of the forms created by mixing the various substances and the overflowing of the transparent resin from the predefined forms.
Overlaps, doublings up, contrasting colourings for objects with an extraordinary three-dimensionality: the use of piaçava, a fibre extracted from Brazilian palm trees, shows the visual contrast produced by mixing a material rough to the touch and a fluid resin that seems to want to contain its wild nature, or the delicacy of the wooden twigs that bend with the passage of the resin creating a soft effect of fragility, while the contrast with the sinuosity of leather produces eccentric and intriguing effects.
“The names of the pieces have come about through a fun game of words and associations that makes us smile”, add the Campana brothers. They take their cue from the landscapes and atmospheres of their land, Brazil, or from figures and characters of those places.
The unusual magical expressive intensity of these creations is due to their material qualities, which, associated with the personal style of the Campana brothers, have given rise to unique and ironic interpretations.
Their unmistakable style undoubtedly betrays their South American origins and speaks the language of nature, its colours and primordial forms for an alternative approach to design that sees the union of different materials in a perpetual interplay of tactile and visual perceptions. Likewise the precious hand crafting skills of Corsi Design Factory have succeeded in expressing the spirit and passion of the Brazilian designers perfectly. “A great empathy was immediately created and a profound understanding as to how to combine the project idea with the hand crafting skills, the fantasy and freshness of the materials with the rigour of the execution”, adds Andrea Corsi.
These objects seem to emerge from the depths of the earth, as though they were outflows of lava, or found again among the artefacts of an indigenous tribe: through entangled lines, unusual profiles and curious shades they reveal and evoke the primitive essence of nature, the intensity and beauty of the South American climate.
During the Milan Furniture Fair Nativo Collection will be hosted at the Spazio Rossana Orlandi at Via Matteo Bandello 14 in Milan.
The nature of the collection devised by the Campana brothers and the characteristics of Corsi Design Factory lend themselves to interpretations of colours and materials in a kaleidoscopic sequence of objects: the 15 creations will in fact be presented in numerous variations, creating a host of colours and sensations and displayed on a structure of tubes and shelves resembling the rough scaffolding of a building site.
In 2003 Andrea Corsi started a company with Gaetano Pesce, with whom he founded “Fish Design”, to create and distribute the collections of resin objects conceived by Pesce himself. In 2007 he created the “Mendinismi” collection with Alessandro Mendini; this consists of hand crafted fibreglass vases and dishes marketed by “Corsi”, the company of the same name established by the young entrepreneur in 2007 with the aim of exploring new project languages. The path continues with the presentation of the Nativo collection designed by the Campana brothers at the Milan Furniture Fair.
All the items are produced in their entirety in the workshop space at Viale Lombardia 23 in Milan.
