Design, comfort and eco-compatible technology: 3 key concepts to define the richness and variety of Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd.’s proposals. For the third consecutive year, this well-known Japanese conglomerate presents at the Milan Furniture Fair a list of highly innovative products designed to create a complete home environment, from the lighting system to the kitchen, from the living room to the bathroom, in a perfect combination of design with a distinctive style and eco-compatible technology. Smart homes characterised by computerised interactive products governed by domotics. Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. sets itself the task of improving the flexibility of management, comfort, safety, energy-saving of home dwellings in addition to the quality of home design and work in buildings, confirming its desire to propose a perfect green lifestyle through solutions characterised by sustainability. The environment conceived for the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair not only presents many individual products, but also intends to make known to the public that “invisible design” that lies at the basis of next-generation energy control systems.
The layout design is once again entrusted to Martino Berghinz, who has skilfully made visible the “hidden” proposal of Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. Berghinz is acknowledged as having the capacity to involve spectators with a strong, eclectic and emotional approach, creating a system with considerable visual impact, a unitary aesthetics of great conceptual cohesiveness, typical of the new Japanese creative reality. Berghinz has imagined a space that is reminiscent of a metaphorical cave, a clear reference to the archetypal habitat of the human race and its direct contact with nature, using kenaf, an ecological fibre for construction, to facet it and build around it the ethical and sustainable world of Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd.
“Exploiting its particular characteristics and transforming it into multifaceted prismatic forms for this layout design, I wanted to create an environment with a surprise effect on visitors to reveal the various products on display, and to highlight the many faces of the technological and sustainable world of Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. with the choice of versatile forms. The material thus becomes not only an object but a subject, linking together all the products presented, which are part of different lines and collections, to design a system in which the key themes of the company philosophy are amalgamated: technology, ecology, sustainability and aesthetics”. Martino Berghinz
The theme chosen this year is synthesised in the term ‘smart’, that is, the technological intelligence that is at the basis of the highly innovative home environment, proposed and realised thanks to the optimised integration of energy-saving that these products could not offer individually.
Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. not only develops products that are very efficient from the perspective of energy consumption, such as LED lights and the various electronic devices that create a complete integrated network, from electricity generators to special wiring, to the various basic devices. In particular, this system is the result of the fusion of HEMS (Home Energy Management System), a technology that enables energy to be produced, accumulated and saved, with the ECO management system that operates with a high-speed internal connection line (LAN) to allow users to monitor and check energy consumption constantly, and the AC/DC hybrid wiring system, which supplies, distributes and transforms highly efficiently the alternating current (AC) produced by the local electricity company and the direct current (DC) produced by a solar energy system, depending on the consumption of the home concerned.
Products that are part of the set up design
Home network system / ECO management system
A network system for the home in which ‘smart’ appliances are connected up with various devices throughout the home to create an integrated network with high standards in terms of safety, energy-saving, comfort and sustainability.
The ECO management system uses electronic detection technologies that are sophisticated but at the same time accessible from the standpoint of costs, to monitor the use of electricity, water and gas and thus significantly reduce energy consumption.
3D image sensor
A spatial and movement sensor that is applied and operates in real time without the need for a remote control or a touch screen. It can also be used for interactive games and detection security systems.
LED downlight
Small compact built-in LED units that supply lighting equal to 60 W for over 40,000 hours with an energy consumption of just 7W. The successful combination of high lighting power with low consumption and the essential design make this product a perfect system that suits extremely linear environments.
OLED light panel
An organic LED panel lighting system, the future generation of light sources, which due to the presence of devices of extremely reduced dimension and with a unique design, it is perfectly suited to being built into furniture and other structures in the home, and in more complex lighting devices. OLED is a design object; it has a flat shape and emits light homogeneously over the whole surface. When it is off, it looks like a mirror.
Lighting products “Sphere”
An extremely natural energy-saving and low environmental impact lighting system, made of a plastic similar to glass, designed in collaboration with Naoto Fukasawa. The Sphere collection, fitted with compact fluorescent light bulbs, is joined by the Sphere lamp in the floor and
Air circulation panel
Wall panels with air purification and humidity level control functions and mechanisms, an effective barrier against bacteria and viruses, to guarantee a healthy environment throughout the year.
Kenaf fiber board
Made of kenaf, a plant very much appreciated by experts and ecologists for its highly ecological and healthy power for the environment. Kenaf in fact uses carbon dioxide, a contributing cause of the greenhouse effect, in its development as a raw material, and emits a considerable quantity of oxygen into the environment during its development. It also grows quickly. The panels made using compressed kenaf fibre are three times more resistant than conventional structural materials, thus reducing the need for bearing walls and allowing greater freedom in the internal division of the home. Highly impermeable, it prevents problems of condensation and is ideal for making the home environment healthy and liveable.
Kitchen
A prototype developed with the supervision of Naoto Fukasawa, the perfect combination of design and practical functionality. The special structure of the worktop discreetly conceals the cooker surface and an indirect lighting system gives the composition a refined elegance.
Fully automaticself-cleaning toilet
A line of easy-to-install self-cleaning toilets made of organic glass developed in collaboration with Naoto Fukasawa, incorporating innovative heat recycling with technologies for water and energy saving. A form that is both iconic and functional to which handles can easily be added to make it a universal design instrument.
Sofa with massage function
A light and compact armchair for relaxation combines highly technological performance characteristics with aesthetics and functionality of design.
The space will be lit entirely by the light system created by Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. : LED spotlights, an OLED light panel and ‘Sphere’ lamps, part of a more extensive collection designed in collaboration with Naoto Fukasawa.
Company profile
