calligraphy is…

calligraphy doesn’t just refer to writing act

calligraphy can be said a music and a dance because it presents musical tonal scale and rhythm through the fluid line and the expressive brush stroke

calligraphy is also fine arts in respect that spontaneous traces made by brush and ink remain on the paper

calligraphy is decorum and morality because it is presented by humans using the cultural mind, the heart consistent with the nature, and the skilled hand, thus illuminates the feelings and elevates the soul

calligraphy a kind of music, dance, fine arts, decorum and morality, is considered the supreme art in East Asian culture

NEWIWEN is … the new wind blowing in the west.

The 20th century was definitely the era of European and American culture. However, many scholars have predicted the 21st century will be the era of Asia. To meet this prospect, China has tried to spread Chinese characters and calligraphy art throughout the world. All sort of cultural events performed from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games tell us how strong their will is.

Japan and Korea accepted Chinese characters and calligraphy at least 2000 years ago and developed their own culture with Chinese characters and calligraphy art. Actually Chinese characters are not for Chinese only. They are a common asset in East Asia and so is the calligraphy culture.

In order to expand and develop Chinese characters and calligraphy into a global art and culture enjoyed by the world, East-Asian and western countries are making closer cooperation. Thanks to the great interest in Chinese cultural range, in the western hemisphere begin to blow a calligraphic “fresh breeze”. This opportunity is a significant stage on which both the East-Asian and Western calligraphic culture can harmonize.

In Italy, FeiMo Contemporary Calligraphy  is putting a great deal of efforts toward achieving this grand goal through the intense work of two calligraphy schools, in Milan (located in the Zen Monastery “Il Cerchio”) and in Florence, in addition to the continued participation in International Exhibitions and calligraphy competitions throughout the East Asian.

With NEWIWEN, FeiMo Contemporary Calligraphy offers an overview of western calligraphers works interpreter of this remarkable new culture that is rising.
