SENZA TITOLO

Just as if they were paintings, sculptures or art installations, at DesignWeek - FuoriSalone 2010 Lolli e Memmoli present a reinterpretation of their Circular and Square PHEBO suspension lamp, composed of thousands of crystal carrés. Ten years after its creation, architects Ivan Lolli and Mario Memmoli, who have been successfully on the market since 1993, have come up with a new special rereading of this piece, strictly connected to the world of art and represented by five styles inspired by the masterpieces of the twentieth- and twenty-first-century.

The association of polychromies inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s artistic universe, in which nature is portrayed through details that are so subtle that they almost work as pixels, breaking down reality into realistic impressionism, is mirrored in PHEBO Circular 1/6 V.G.. The typically Op art colours black and white pay homage to the mathematical world of Victor Vasarely in PHEBO 1/6 V.V.: in fact the alternation and disposition of these two tints generates a daring yet balanced and precious effect, like in the kinetic figurative language, playing with the piece’s geometric contours and producing an almost plastic effect. The minimalism of Anish Kapoor’s sculptures, causing a stone monolith to hide within itself a mysterious core, or an unexpected appearance based on dichotomies such as full and empty, light and darkness, visible and invisible, is recognizable in PHEBO Square 1/6 A.K., since its sober cyanite black carrés enclose a bright golden heart, recalling the artist’s inside/outside main theme. Jenny Holzer’s site specific luminous installations are based on language, expressed using LED technology: messages formed by ribbons of words in motion, to be spread in urban spaces. Like a repetitive string of LED words, PHEBO Square 1/6 J.H. opens a shining green tear in the darkness of the gallery, as the black crystals are geometrically outlined by a strong emerald green light which emphasizes their shape and is peculiarly refracted. The last of this special edition styles is PHEBO Circular 1/6 D.H., dedicated to the enfant terrible of the YBAs (Young British Artists), Damien Hirst, the last decade’s controversial art genius who runs along the boundaries of our sensitivity and provokes us in ever different clever ways. This piece is composed of white crystal carrés, run through by a red line which irregularly crosses the lamp’s four central rings thus reminding of an electrocardiogram graph, or of one of our body’s highly vascularized areas.

The new PHEBO styles will only be produced in six replicas each: the hand-assembled crystals will be chosen one by one in order to obtain one-off compositions, this creating really unique light projects, in a skilfully balanced ensemble studied to achieve an affecting and surprising final effect.

In the occasion of the Design Week, Lolli e Memmoli also present a new colour range, enriched by innovative shades and tonalities created on purpose by the designers and which characterize the new 2010 collection.
