Two architectural projects investigate new relationships of surface, structure and space, through research on slender skins and metal textures. Textures in contemporary architecture are no longer seen as only a form of decoration, but also as features of identity of buildings, symbols of precise formal and aesthetic choices.

“The question of the surface is one of the most thoroughly investigated themes in architecture over the last two decades. Organized in different textures and materials, surfaces become a continuous cladding, a wrapper that completely envelops the building, even developing at times in a radical way, independent of the scale and the internal structure. In the line of reasoning we are observing, this skin becomes volume, expanding into space like an abstract composition, a pattern that takes form in decorations. A significant range of such examples can be found today, standing out clearly against complex, variegated urban contexts”, Cloe Piccoli writes.

During the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Studio Guenzani, in its Project Space on Via Melzo, hosts an exhibition curated by Cloe Piccoli on the latest projects by Onsitestudio, a design lab founded in 2006 in Milan by Angelo Lunati and Luca Varesi.

The versatile research of Onsitestudio explores new spatial solutions for the city and the landscape, through reinterpretation of the specificity of places and their identity. Through this practice Onsitestudio looks for new connections between architecture and the contemporary scenario, both in historical contexts and future developments.
