This exhibition-anniversary will presented the most symbolic objects of the work of 5.5 designers. Far from being a simple review, it is much more a greedy exhibition conceived as a big birthday cake: a delicious marriage of unique pieces, new installations and prototypes free for edition, limited series and mass market products, in auto production or simply experiments. As the cherry on the cake, new pieces will be revealed and will come to pepper this alchemy. 5.5 designers touch everything and experiment as much with the object as the method of production and marketing. And it is in this creative emulsion which shows of this permanent questioning that they invite us to share a moment of pleasure and discover their last achievements.
A private inauguration in an atmosphere close to a “birthday party” is planned on April 23nd from 6.00 pm
in the Convent of the Centre culturel français
Objects are extracted from the various scenographies in which they were born (the hospital for Réanim, the common apartment for the collection of the common objects, manufactures for “Ouvriers-designers” or the laboratory of medical cloning for their project Cloning) to mix until enlightening us on the points of convergences of the various surrounding areas of 5.5 designers. Encounters, piles or accumulations help us to understand better the conceptual universe of their approach: a universe which is not stylistic but which reveals numerous axes of questioning on the role of the designer in front of stakes that our contemporary society has to face. This installation demonstrates that the creations of 5.5 designers – more than making laugh, being qualified as provocative or considered political- live in the space with elegance and strength, while answering to the new behaviour consumers of tomorrow aspire.
5.5 designers have decided to gather all their anniversary gifts on a display called “the gift wall” during the exhibition. Therefore they invite you not to come empty-handed ...Take the opportunity to have your original anecdotic or unique objects exposed in the Centre culturel français. 5.5 designers keep on working on popular creation not simply by reinventing the visitor’s book or wondering about the gift status but also by offering a part of their exhibition-space to their guests.
