HELL’S KITCHEN
This year at the Fuori Salone sees the reincarnation of recyclable materials.
During the most experimental week of the year in Milan, the most “poor and worn” materials of the city will be transformed in to a new and exciting form. Decidedly more glamorous and stylish than their previous existence.
Hell’s Kitchen, whose name is taken from the old, ill-reputed neighbourhood of New York, will present its new collection of bags and accessories at the Fuori Salone.
Just as shapes and materials can be transformed, HK overturns the schemes of urban life and they find a “new existence”: the city becomes a more romantic and pleasant place to have a picnic, where wearing an inner-tube, a patched shirt or an old seat-belt has never been so chic. Or rather, so 100% chic recycle!
Déjeuner en Ville
If Manet were a modern Milanese artist, just how would he interpret his “Déjeuner sur l’herbe”? Five hundred years later, HK will relive this painting in a modern setting, proposing an absolutely original urban guerrilla-style event: a romantic urban picnic. Chequered picnic blankets, wicker baskets, cushions and inner-tube place mats in the company of good friends … just as in the best of picnic traditions.
The only difference will be the location; instead of a field in the open countryside, the setting will be the pounding heart of the city. Piazza San Babila, Ghisolfa bridge, Naviglio Pavese… and in the future even Times Square or the Champs-Élysées. It’s just the beginning of a phenomenon that will start in Milan, when the city is most open and receptive to an international atmosphere, which will spread to other parts of the world.
We are all looking to create a different quality of life for the future of the planet, as well as for ourselves …. Let’s start with our daily routine, the roads that we travel down everyday, and take a break in the middle of the traffic for an eco-chic picnic.
Let’s liven up the city and create an atmosphere that bears more of a resemblance to our own way of living… romantic and yet trendy at the same time, just as Manet would have wanted it to be!
